It’s that time of year again. Time to renew your ASCAP and BMI performance licenses through the American Association of Community Theatres. This is the license that allows you to play music before your show, during intermission, and after the show. It doesn’t cover music used within a play, but in my opinion they are mandatory for any theater company. The package for both licenses through the AACT is less than $300 per year. That’s cheap, when you consider that a single count of infringement CAN cost you up to $250,000! But hurry, the AACT discount is only available once a year, and it goes away September 30th.
