This AACT award winning sound design is a beautiful piano-centered enhancement for “Radium Girls.” This turn-key sound design includes musical and sound effect transitions for each scene. Ticking clocks are used though out as metaphor for the girl’s race against time for justice and against their disease, and the glowing clock dials they painted. The opening and closing sequences are timed to the dialogue from Grace and Roeder. A short and long version of these cues are available to accommodate variations in line delivery. The nightmare scene includes a wonderful, spooky underscore, and ends with Mrs. Fryer tapping on the bedroom door. Sound effects for the appearances of Reporter and Sob Sister utilize the sound of a vintage teletype machine, as well as 1940’s movie newsreel themes. Other effects for Radium Girls include vintage doorbells, as well as Roeder pounding on the door of Von Soshocky’s home.
A Competition Version of this design specifically for the one-act version of “Radium Girls” is available here.
