Sound Design – “Radium Girls”

Sound Design for Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory

This AACT award winning sound design is a beautiful piano-centered enhancement for “Radium Girls.” This turn-key sound design includes musical and sound effect transitions for each scene. Ticking clocks are used as metaphor for the girl’s race against time for justice and against their disease, and the glowing clock dials they painted. The opening and closing sequences are timed to the dialogue from “GRACE” and “ROEDER.” A short and long version of these cues are available to accommodate variations in line delivery. The nightmare scene includes a wonderful, spooky underscore, and ends with “MRS. FRYER” tapping on the bedroom door. Sound effects for the appearances of “REPORTER” and “SOB SISTER” utilize the sound of a vintage teletype machine, as well as 1940’s movie newsreel themes. Other effects for Radium Girls include vintage doorbells, as well as “ROEDER” pounding on the door of “VON SOSHOCKY’S” home.

“I just wanted to drop you a quick note about how pleased we are with your Radium Girls sound design.  It is lovely and works wonders to underscore the action and emotion of the show… also, your documentation is spot on!”

“The simplicity of the piano solos is what sold me. Really touches the soul of the work.”
