Using Your Design

After you return your executed license agreement, and pay your invoice, you will receive a Dropbox link to download your sound design. Download the entire contents of the folder. It will likely end up in a .zip (compressed) file located in your Downloads folder. Follow these instructions to get up and running.

  1. RIGHT CLICK on the .zip folder. In Windows, select EXTRACT ALL/EXTRACT. For Macs, select OPEN WITH/ARCHIVE UTILITY. When you do this, a folder called “your_show_name Distribution” will show up in your downloads folder.
  2. Open the “your_show_name Distribution” folder. In it will be a folder called “your_show_name SOUND” as well as .pdf files of your Cue List, Prompt Book, and a READ ME FIRST file. These instructions are included in the Read Me First file.
  3. Move the “your_show_name SOUND” folder and all of the .pdf files to the desktop of your playback machine by dragging and dropping.
  4. FOR QLAB – In the folder, you will find a QLab workspace file.  Double click on the QLab workspace file to launch the program. In QLab your workspace should open and be ready to go. If you see errors, it likely indicates that you didn’t follow these instructions completely. Your best bet is to delete everything and start over!
  5. FOR MULTIPLAY – In the folder, you will find a MultiPlay program file (*.mpp). Double click on the MultiPlay program file to launch the program. Go to FILE/PRODUCTION PROPERTIES and specify the “your_show_name SOUND” folder on your desktop as the Media Folder. Click accept to go back to the main program. Close the program and reopen MultiPlayer by double clicking on the design file. The program will re-open, load your design, and you are ready to go! Again, if you see errors, it likely indicates that you didn’t follow these instructions completely. Your best bet is to delete everything and start over!

PLEASE NOTE: MultiPlay programming files REQUIRE v.3 of the program for use. The current release 2.5.3.0 WILL NOT run the program file for your design. While v.3 is technically a beta release of the program, I have found it to be rock solid for the basic functions needed for your design. The design was actually programmed in release .187 of v.3 and is fully tested. you can download release .187 at this link. The very latest release is available at https://da-share.com/forum/index.php?topic=74.0. Make sure you go to the last page and last post for the latest release. As mentioned before, the design will likely work just fine with the latest release, but it has NOT been tested.

FOR MAC USERS: UNLESS noted in the documentation, your design was programmed in QLab v.4. This is to accommodate schools and theaters running older Macs that might struggle with the newer v.5 software. If you are running v.5, no worries! The v.4 workspace will load and run just fine. If however, the documentation indicates that QLab v.5 is required, you will have to upgrade. Workspaces created in v.5 CANNOT be run in v.4.
